Armada Customer Story: Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities
At Armada, we specialize in helping organizations tackle the unique challenges of remote operations through advanced edge computing and connectivity solutions. One of our recent collaborations is with the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (Alaska DOT&PF), which is using Armada’s technology to transform how they manage Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) data capture, disaster response, and critical infrastructure monitoring across the state’s rugged terrain.
Enabling Faster Data Processing at Alaska’s Remote Sensing Lab
Alaska’s landscape is vast, remote, and often challenging to manage—especially when it comes to capturing and processing data from critical infrastructure. To meet these challenges, Alaska DOT&PF will be deploying Armada’s Edge product at their Remote Sensing Lab, significantly enhancing the speed and efficiency of their UAS data capture projects. By containerizing applications such as Esri, Skydio, Trimble, and more, we will help Alaska DOT&PF drastically reduce latency and eliminate the need for co-located environments. This will be a game-changer for their real-time monitoring and data processing capabilities.
Ensuring Reliable Connectivity with Starlink and Armada’s Connect Platform
To maintain continuous connectivity between their remote operations, Alaska DOT&PF is utilizing Starlink in combination with Armada’s Connect platform. This setup ensures uptime and reliable connections between remote drone docking stations, enabling their drones to perform tasks like avalanche detection and infrastructure inspection in even the most isolated areas. Currently, Alaska DOT&PF is managing close to a hundred connected assets through our platform, with plans to onboard even more. This robust infrastructure allows them to manage all their IoT assets through a single pane of glass, providing a comprehensive view of operations and ensuring maximum efficiency.
"With Armada’s edge computing solutions, we’re delivering a capability that empowers organizations like ADOT&PF to make critical, data-driven decisions in real time, no matter where their operations take them," says Dan Wright, CEO of Armada. “This is why we started Armada—to bridge the digital divide and, in the case of emergency response, make sure that lives are not lost due to the lack of infrastructure or connectivity in remote locations.”
Revolutionizing Disaster Response and Safety Monitoring
Disaster response and public safety are key areas where Alaska DOT&PF has seen remarkable improvements. Their ability to monitor and respond to potential emergencies, such as avalanches and landslides, has been significantly enhanced by using Armada’s platform.
"Often, the first question during an emergency from leadership is, 'What assets do we have in the area?' With the Armada Connect Dashboard, it's been incredibly helpful to quickly show what’s available and what additional resources we need to mobilize," says Ryan Marlow, UAS Program Coordinator for Alaska DOT&PF.
The combination of real-time data insights and reliable connectivity also means that ADOT&PF is equipped to maintain communication with their remote assets during disaster scenarios. Whether it is maintaining drone docking stations or ensuring that Starlink terminals stay operational, Armada’s platform ensures that Alaska DOT&PF can respond quickly and efficiently, with minimal downtime.
Unlocking New Capabilities with Armada’s Solutions
The success of ADOT&PF in leveraging Armada’s solutions speaks to the power of having full stack edge computing. By eliminating latency, providing reliable network coverage, and enabling faster data processing, we have empowered ADOT&PF to unlock new levels of operational efficiency and safety. And as they continue to expand their use of our platform, we are excited to see how they will continue to redefine remote operations in Alaska.
At Armada, we are proud to be a part of their journey and to help organizations around the world push the boundaries of what is possible in even the most challenging environments.
